(I love how hard it is to submit to DA without feeling like I'm putting things in a wildly wrong category...)

One of my fondest wishes since basically forever has been to design and create toys. I taught myself to sculpt with the intentions to eventually teach myself to do molds and all that sort of thing, but I was unhappy with my sense of symmetry and I chickened out on actually learning to mold things (for now!) because of reasons.

And then, somehow, I found out about 3D printing.

These are figurines of zero-form leupak Nef (along with a mini-leupak and a dluggon made by my friend Neekko), from concept sketch, sculpting in Sculptris, and in final, real-life form.
The one I've painted was a test paint using alternate colors; now that I'm convinced I won't wreck them, I'll paint the second in Nef's real scheme-- glow-in-the-dark eyes and crystals aside.

And of course, now that I've gotten a handle on making these, I'll be making a bunch more and actually selling them once I have. :)

Despite what my original scribblenotes say, the final figure is actually more like 10 centimeters tall, due to size and price tweaks.

I've just heard about 3D Printing, and have wanted one for myself. This looks absolutely amazing!

Impressive. I was really wondering why you painted him those weird colours until I read the description, though. XDD

I like Japanese stuff. I dislike magical girls.
I try to do the right thing. I'm obsessed with bad guys and shadow-beasts.
The senseless upsets me. The absurd delights me.
I love all things indigo. I am Takumi.

This is awesome! If you don't mind my asking, where did you get this printed? I wouldn't mind trying!

It depends upon a lot of different factors, like the material you decide to use, how you sculpt the model, how/if you hollow the model out, etc.
This one as it is currently costs a bit too much for anything beyond my personal use-- it was $40 on sale-- and before I had it hollowed out to that point, even, it would've cost upwards of $400 with the least expensive material.

I'm really no expert with this sort of thing, since it's taken me a lot and a long time of trial and error, and I'm still in the early testing phases. :)

$400 holy cow! I may have to fiddle around with this too and see if I can find something a little less expensive. Just something to fiddle around with and possibly get a little "series" going.

What it is made of? It looks like it is made of small plastic pellets on the painted version.
Maybe it is just the gold paint and flash of the camera :o

I love that you are able to do this now :)
